Sociales II. Aprende primero lo imprescindible, juega con las simulaciones hasta que el rango y las combinaciones lineales te parezcan obvios, y luego haz cuatro simulacros cronometrados y corrígelos tú con una rúbrica basada en los criterios de la PAU.Everything from the matrices block in one place, for science Maths II and for Social Sciences Maths II. Learn the must-knows first, play with the labs until rank and linear combinations feel obvious, then sit four timed mock exams and mark them yourself with a rubric based on the PAU criteria.

If you only remember one thing, remember this table. Every exam question on matrices is one of these five boxes in disguise. The Spanish words in the small tags are the ones you will read in the exam.

01 · dimensión01 · size

Una matriz es un número con dimensiónA matrix is a number with dimensions dimensión

La dimensión es siempre filas × columnas. A3×2 tiene 3 filas y 2 columnas. El elemento aij está en la fila i, columna j.Size is always rows × columns. A3×2 has 3 rows (filas) and 2 columns (columnas). Entry aij sits in row i, column j.

02 · producto02 · product

A·B solo existe si columnas de A = filas de BA·B only exists if columns of A = rows of B

(m × n) · (n × p) = m × p

The inner numbers must match, the outer numbers give the size of the result. Each entry of A·B is a row of A times a column of B: multiply in pairs and add.

En general A·B ≠ B·A. El orden importa siempre.A·B ≠ B·A in general. Order always matters.
03 · identidad e inversa03 · identity and inverse

I es el "1" de las matrices y A−1 deshace AI is the "1" of matrices, A−1 undoes A

I =100010001A·I = I·A = A

Igual que 7·(1/7) = 1, la inversa cumple A·A−1 = A−1·A = I. Las matrices no se dividen: nunca escribas B/A.Just as 7·(1/7) = 1, the inverse satisfies A·A−1 = A−1·A = I. There is no division of matrices: never write B/A.

I.Always check an inverse: multiply A·A−1 and you must get I.

04 · determinante04 · determinant

Atajo 2×2: intercambia a y d, cambia el signo de b y c, divide entre |A|.2×2 shortcut: swap a and d, change the sign of b and c, divide by |A|.

06 · combinación lineal06 · linear combination

Construir una fila con otras filasBuilding a row out of other rows combinación lineal

Una fila es combinación lineal de otras si puedes obtenerla multiplicándolas por números y sumando:A row is a linear combination of other rows if you can get it by multiplying them by numbers and adding:

F3 = λ·F1 + μ·F2
110010120F3 = F1 + F2, así que F3 es dependiente: no aporta información nueva.F3 = F1 + F2, so F3 is dependent: it adds no new information.

Any correct method gets full marks. Gauss, Cramer or A−1·B for systems; Sarrus or expansion for determinants. The rubric describes one route, the points go to any valid one.
Calculation slip or conceptual error. A slip (3·4 = 11) costs only that step: the following steps are marked as correct if they are right with your wrong number, as long as the slip does not make the exercise easier. A conceptual error (A·B = B·A, dividing by a matrix, A − 3 instead of A − 3I, inverse on the wrong side) scores 0 in that part.
  4. Las conclusiones se escriben. "k = 1 y k = −2" no es una respuesta. "A es invertible para todo k salvo 1 y −2" sí lo es.Conclusions must be written. "k = 1 and k = −2" is not an answer. "A is invertible for every k except 1 and −2" is.
Points go in steps of 0.1. New for 2026: each part is worth a multiple of 0.1 points.
Presentation counts a little. In Madrid a messy or illegible exam can lose up to 0.25 points. Spelling is not penalised in this subject.
Optional questions. When the real exam lets you choose between a) and b), answer only one. If you write both, only the first one counts.

Rutina para corregirteSelf-marking routine

Stop writing when the clock reaches 0. What you write afterwards does not count.
  2. Cambia a un boli de otro color.Switch to a pen of another colour.
Open "Solution and marking" and tick a rubric line only if your paper shows that step.
For a calculation slip, still tick the later lines if the method is right with your number.
Write next to each mistake: what you did, why it is wrong, what the right move is.
Two days later, redo only the parts you lost, without looking.

Qué significa tu notaWhat your score means

Ready for the matrices question. Keep one mock a week to stay fast.
6,5 a 8,46.5 to 8.4Las ideas están. The ideas are there. Find where the time went and redo those exercises against the clock.
Go back to the must-knows and the labs for the exercises you lost, then sit the next mock.
